TBS Mitzvah Day 2024
TBS Mitzvah Day
Join the TBS Community in observing Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a day of service projects.
All ages are welcome to come in person to TBS to participate!
Organized by TBS Social Action Committee, with support from B’Emtza, Hazak, Hesed Committee, Membership Committee, Men's Club, Ritual Committee, Sisterhood, Social Advocacy Committee, Sustainability Committee, and Young Members Group, along with Jewish Relief Agency, League of Women Voters, and Moms Demand Action
Mitzvah Day Schedule
Starting at 8 AM:
- Morning minyan followed by examining items from the TBS Geniza to determine whether they can be repaired or require burial
Starting at 10 AM:
- Donate and sort books (children and adult) for BookSmiles
- Create bracelets with Bead the Good to be donated to the Koby Mandell Foundation in Israel and Have Faith Haiti orphanage
- Decorate stones to be placed in the Holocaust Memorial Garden at the Katz JCC
- Prepare soup in a jar for Jewish Family & Children's Services clients
- Make sandwiches and put together bagged lunches for homeless shelters in Camden
- Participate in the kick-off for Knitzvah by knitting/crocheting hats for IDF soldiers and baby hats for CLICK for Babies. (Zoom option available, click here (password 5784)
- Assemble chemo comfort bags for Cooper University Hospital
- Bake dog biscuits that will be donated to Voorhees Animal Orphanage
- Join the kick-off event for the TBS-CBT-KBA Community Garden by decorating clay pots and planting seeds
- Design cards for Israeli soldiers and families
- Pack boxes of food for Jewish Relief Agency clients
- Learn from League of Women Voters about voter rights
- Learn from Moms Demand Action about gun safety advocacy
- Write letters in support of Israel and to keep college campuses free of antisemitism
Starting at 11:00 AM:
- Cook meals to be donated to Jewish Family & Children's Services clients
Starting at 11:30 AM:
- Assemble utensil packets for Cathedral Kitchen
- Create goody bags for soldiers in the National Guard
Starting at 1:00 PM:
- Teens only - Hang out in the Teen Lounge and solve puzzles to test that all pieces are in the box
Starting at 1:30 PM:
- Bake challah rolls to be donated to to Jewish Family & Children's Services clients
Drop off your donations of the following items during Mitzvah Day in the TBS Lobby:
- New or gently used puzzles (200 pieces or less) for various organizations
- New or gently used children or adult books for BookSmiles
- Kosher, non-perishable food for the Jewish Family & Children's Service Betsy & Peter Fischer Food Pantry
- Women's, men's, and children's new or gently used clean coats, scarves, gloves, and hats
- New sports bras with tags and unopened packages of pads and pantyliners for Distributing Dignity
- Gift cards to ShopRite, Target, Walmart, Uber, or Lyft to support Project SARAH
