Kavannot - Reflections Before Lighting the Hanukkah Candles
As I prepare to kindle the Hanukkah lights,
Recalling the miracles and wonders, the battles and the victories performed for our ancestors the Maccabees in times of yore and by the IDF today,
I pause to reflect on my connection to the Jewish people throughout history and around the world,
Who are responsible for me and for whom I am responsible.
As I place my lit hanukkiah by the window,
Proclaiming my Jewish pride for all to see,
Illuminating my home with mitzvot and good deeds,
I pray that our efforts to bring more light to the world will cast out the darkness,
Fulfilling the words of your prophet, “Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit.” (Zechariah 4:6)
