Summary |
A couple of months ago I received an email that the IDF needed more volunteers due to an uptick in terrorist activity. So I signed up. Hineni. I didn’t know where they would send me or what my role would be. Didn’t matter, because for me that’s part of the excitement of the adventure. And because I have a deep connection to Israel and will support Israel any way I can. I would happily go wherever they needed me and I would gladly do whatever job they assigned to me. And that’s what Hineni means - I am here, ready to do whatever it is that you need me to do.
So they sent me to a medical army base in the central district of Israel, one that I have worked at before in 2019. After my first week I was told that I was needed for a combat unit in the north and they would be transferring me there. Awesome. Hineni. So off I go and found out on the way that I would be providing logistical support for the elite Golani Brigade. The base is abuzz with 800 new recruits who are here for basic training, in addition to the 2,400 other soldiers on the base, many of whom are practicing various military maneuvers involving explosives. It’s loud here and full of energy. The base, Regavim, is huge in contrast to its name which means small parcel of land. And that is exactly what Israel is - a small parcel of land which is the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. And it is our inherent right and responsibility to protect our home. And this week me and the other volunteers were able to contribute towards that cause by helping the Golani Brigade prepare for combat. We did so by spending hours upon hours each day this week in a sweltering warehouse sifting through thousands of rounds of mixed ammunition and sorting them by caliber for various firearms.
We all have the ability to say Hineni when it comes to answering the call for supporting Israel. This can be done in numerous ways, including giving financially and by giving your time. If you would like to learn more about how you too can answer Hineni by providing logistical support to the IDF as a civilian volunteer, reach out to me and I will send you the details on how to apply.
Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom. See you next week.
