WHAT IS SO-SHUL NETWORKING?
So-Shul is an immersive and interactive Shabbat morning experience for students in 5th and 6th grade designed to further engage students in congregational life. Each So-Shul session will give students the opportunity to interact with the Torah through hands-on activities, games, discussion, and more. Students will also join in for portions of the congregational service with John Imhof, while observing the rituals and proceedings of a Shabbat morning service.
WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF SO-SHUL?
As our Kittah, Hay, and Vav students are quickly approaching their exciting journeys to become Bar/Bat Mitzvah, So-Shul gives them the opportunity to have a front row seat to learn the ins and outs of the Shabbat service, Torah service and more!
Torah study is at the core of Jewish life and practice, each week we will take a look at the Parashah together, engage with the text and discuss it with each other.
This builds upon a foundation for life-long Jewish learning and love of Torah. Attendance at So-Shul sessions count towards the 10 services per year requirement.
WHAT WILL A TYPICAL SO-SHUL SESSION LOOK LIKE?
- Torah Learning: Students will spend time with John in the Community Enrichment Room(CER) for an interactive study session of the Parashat HaShavua (Weekly Torah Portion). We will learn about the Parashah through fun games, interactive discussion and more.
- Participation in the congregational service: Students will join John in the sanctuary for parts of the service, all the while paying attention to certain aspects of tefillah and process while keeping track of observations through things such as bingo cards, service trackers and more.
- Short debrief and discussion about the congregational service experience afterward, with a delicious treat!
